5 Benefits Of Weight Lifting For Women

Weight training for women - Fitness classes in Burbage

Do you stay away from weight lifting exercise? You shouldn't - it has great benefits for a woman's body! Here are just some of them:

- Lose body fat & increase metabolism

- Gain strength without bulking

- Decrease risk of osteoporosis

- Reduce risk of injury

- Enhance your mood and reduce stress

Weight-lifting brings tangible results and is very satisfying. This form of exercise is becoming increasingly popular amongst women, but many still think and fear they’ll resemble body-builders in the end rather than gaining the lean body they are after.

This opinion is generally changing, with more and more women trying resistance training - be that with weights or just their own bodies - and enjoying the results as well as the process.

1. Weight training is key to losing fat

“When it comes to fat loss, the single most important factor is making sure you burn off more calories than you consume on a day-to-day basis,”

When you exercise weight training, you build lean muscle, and muscle is a metabolically active tissue where carbohydrates and body fat are burned and used as energy. If you have more muscle, your basal metabolic rate will be higher, so you burn more calories over the course of a day.

2. Did you know it's more effective than cardio?

Cardio is considered by many people to be the key to fat loss, but cardio like running or cycling puts strain on your muscles (which can lead to injuries) and doesn’t necessarily build muscle...

In weight training you have a huge variety of exercises you can do to vary your routine - so you'll never run out of fun ideas when it comes to exercise!

3. Lifting weights doesn't mean you'll end up with a body-builders physique

Some women think that weight training makes you bulky and muscly like a body builder - and that's true, it can get those results however you need specific exercise and diet for that. Most of us do not have the time, inclination or motivation to train and eat like a body builder - it's really hard work! So next time you are put off weight training because of this, think again.

4. It actually has a positive impact on your bone density

In weight training, our bones are put under pressure from the force of resistance training over a long period of time, so they grow stronger and increase in density to withstand the extra load and force. This decreases the chances of developing osteoporosis as you grow older - who would have thought?

5. It will improve your strength, boost your confidence, and heighten your mood

Over time as you workout, your body becomes stronger - you are able to lift more weight and push your body further giving you more confidence. Weight training also helps you achieve a lean and toned physique - and seeing those results gives us a little boost!
