It’s over to me, Emma, for the next few weeks to continue looking at different diets and this week we are focusing on the Paleo Diet.
The Paleo diet resembles how our ancestors would have lived their lives thousands of years ago. Leading active lifestyles, hunting and gathering for food. The diet consists of eating lean meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Research has shown that our ancestors would have had much lower levels of obesity and heart disease because of their active lifestyle. It is believed that the Paleo diet can lead to weight loss, without the need to calorie count and go towards improving overall health.
Paleo Diets are based on whole, unprocessed foods such as meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, root vegetables, nuts and seeds, healthy fats and oils and spices. Wherever possible you should buy organic produce. You would avoid sugar and sugary drinks, legumes, grains, dairy (especially low fat), sunflower oil, soya bean oil and rapeseed, artificial sweeteners, margarine, and highly processed foods. ‘If it looks like it was made in a factory – don’t eat it’!
