How to lose weight the healthy way

Many of you attending my classes come with the aim of losing weight, and carry on because you want to lead a healthier lifestyle and feel (as well as look!) good. Losing weight can be an enjoyable process – you don’t have to starve yourself and spend hours at the gym daily. What you should do is make some changes to your lifestyle so you loose weight AND keep it off when you’ve reached your goals.

Here are some tips on how to lose weight – the healthy way:

Eat Regular Meals

You will burn more calories if you have your meals at regular times during the day – having a schedule can also help reuse cravings for snacks, however if you feel the need to refuel then reach for healthy alternatives to fat and sugar like blueberries, nuts, or a banana.

Don’t Skip Your Breakfast

You are really not doing yourself any favours by skipping breakfast – what you’re doing is missing out on nutrients and proteins which are essential for you to start your day with. And because your body is hungry, you’ll give in to temptation to snack! Try quick and healthy breakfasts like porridge, eggs and avocado, cereal (make sure there are no sugars), or a smoothie if you really can’t stomach a small meal.

Make Sure You’re Getting Your 5 A Day

Fruit and vegetables are low in calories but high in essential nutrients, proteins, good carbs, and vitamins. These foods keep you healthy, energetic, and help lose weight. Plus, some veggies and fruits are brilliant to help you gather energy and re-hydrate after exercise!

Drink Plenty Of Water

You know sometimes when you think you’re really hungry, you’re actually just really thirsty? We often confuse the feelings of hunger with being dehydrated so make sure you’re sipping on water throughout the day. Plus, water makes your skin glow, gives you energy, and keeps your digestive system working properly!

Exercise And Physical Activity Are A Must

Not only will exercise help you lose weight, but it will help keep your weight off, make your body stronger, leaner, and benefit you when you’re older. My fitness classes are based around Marlborough, Wiltshire and consist of different fitness levels – whether you’re a beginner, or a seasoned fitness goer we’ll work out what works best for you!

Use A Smaller Plate At Dinner Time

Let’s face it – with 90% of us, if we have food in front of our face we’ll eat it. “I’m so full, I feel ill… Oh go on then, one more bite!” comes to mind. So switch your normal dinner plate to a smaller size whilst you’re in the process of losing weight – this will be a lot of help, trust me.

Don’t Restrict Yourself

If you start banning your favourite indulgent foods from your diet, you’ll only crave them more. So instead make sure you’re eating them occasionally and don’t go over your daily calories allowance.

Cut Down On Alcohol

All I need to say on this one – a bottle of wine is the same amount of calories as a large pizza. Yup, shocking but true. Alcohol contains a lot of calories per unit, so even if you’re eating healthy but still indulging in drink that weight isn’t going to shift. So stick to water, and if you really can’t resist the temptation of a drink on a summery Friday night then try gin and tonic which is the choice of drink for those trying to lose weight.
